Two women talking and looking angry

Her Sister-in-Law Said Her Daughter Needs to Learn Not to Bother the Dog After It Nipped Her at Easter, and Now She’s Planning to Bring All Three Dogs for Thanksgiving Week

A woman and her husband are hosting Thanksgiving this year, with his sister and her husband staying from Tuesday through Sunday. Last week, her sister-in-law announced in the family group chat that her three dogs would be coming too.

Nobody asked first. And one of those dogs nipped the woman’s 4-year-old daughter at Easter, which has her dreading the idea of a week with all three in her small home.

Hosting Thanksgiving Again

The couple hosted the same relatives last year, and the visit went really well. She was looking forward to doing it again.

Hosting for nearly a week isn’t cheap. Between extra groceries, the holiday meal, and everyday household costs, having guests for five nights can easily add hundreds of dollars to the budget.

A Sister-in-Law Who Stays All Week

Her husband’s sister and her husband are driving in for the holiday. They’ll be staying at the house for the whole week.

Last year, her sister-in-law boarded her dogs during the trip. This year, she’s planning something different.

A Group Chat Announcement

Her sister-in-law posted a photo of her three dogs in matching sweaters. She explained that her usual boarding place was full.

She added that another option wanted $65 a night per dog. Then she wrote that the dogs would be coming this year, and everyone in the chat reacted with hearts, except the woman, who hasn’t responded yet.

$65 a Night Per Dog

At $65 per dog each night, boarding all three for five nights would cost almost $1,000. That’s a major expense for a holiday trip.

The woman understands why her sister-in-law wants to avoid that cost. Still, nobody checked whether bringing the dogs to her house was okay.

A Nip at Easter

She likes dogs and grew up with a Labrador. Two of her sister-in-law’s dogs are big, friendly, and goofy.

The problem is the smallest one. At Easter, her daughter tried to pet him while he was eating, and he nipped her hand.

It didn’t break the skin, but it left a red mark for the rest of the afternoon. Her sister-in-law said the dog doesn’t like being bothered while eating and that her daughter needs to learn that.

A Small House Full of Food

Their house is small, and her daughter is constantly moving from room to room. During Thanksgiving week, food will be everywhere.

Keeping the dogs in the guest room won’t work. Her sister-in-law has said they sleep in her bed, and the small dog cries all night if he’s crated.

A Husband Who Wants Her to Say It

Her husband agrees that having the dogs stay isn’t a good idea. But since it’s his sister, he wants his wife to be the one to tell her.

She’ll also be the one home with the dogs most of the week. That’s part of why she feels so strongly about it.

A Text She Hasn’t Sent

She’s planning to tell her sister-in-law that she and her husband are welcome, but the dogs can’t stay. She knows that means her sister-in-law may have to pay nearly $1,000 for boarding or decide not to come.

That’s why she hasn’t sent the message yet. With Thanksgiving getting closer, she’s left trying to protect her daughter without starting a family fight over who gets a spot in the guest room.
