Her Sister Mocked Her Online for Having a Baby at 18, Then Demanded to Be Invited on the Trip When Their Mom Was Going
A 28-year-old mom is heading out of state this weekend for her daughter’s volleyball training, and she invited her own mom to tag along. When her 30-year-old sister found out she wasn’t asked, the two got into a heated argument that’s now pulled their mother into the middle.
The sisters have been drifting apart for years. Much of that distance comes down to how differently they feel about children, and this trip brought it all back to the surface.
A Sister Who Is Proudly Child-Free
Her older sister is openly child-free and talks about it often. She posts about it online and has shared strong opinions about where kids do and don’t belong.
That’s her choice, and the younger sister doesn’t fault her for it. But the way her sister has talked about parents over the years has left a mark.
A Mom at 18
She had her daughter at 18, and those early years were tough. She doesn’t regret it, and she went on to marry her high school sweetheart.
Today, her family is in a good place financially. She was able to finish college, her husband has a solid job, and she’s now expecting their second child.
Raising a child that young often means stretching every dollar. Getting from those early struggles to a stable, comfortable life took years of hard work from both of them.
Posts That Stung
Her sister wasn’t supportive while her daughter was growing up. Her online posts made it feel like she thought her younger sister was foolish for having a child, especially during a time when life was already hard.
That stung when she was young and doing her best. Instead of feeling supported, she felt judged by her own sibling.
Invitations That Fell Apart
She used to invite her sister to things, but those plans often ended in frustration. Her sister would get upset if she had to leave earlier than planned or if she suggested activities her daughter could join, like a trip to the park.
Over time, the invitations slowed down. The two grew apart, and their relationship became more distant.
A Volleyball Weekend Out of State
This weekend, her daughter has a volleyball training session in a nice city about one state away. She’s traveling with her daughter, who’ll be in practice for most of the day.
Trips like this aren’t cheap. Between training fees, gas or travel costs, a hotel, and meals out, a weekend away for youth sports can easily run several hundred dollars or more, and it’s all built around her daughter’s schedule.
A Mini Girls Trip With Mom
Since parents have free time during practice, she invited her mom to come along. Her mom was excited about turning it into a little girls trip.
The plan was simple. Her daughter goes to practice, she and her mom explore the city, they all have dinner together, and they do it again the next day before heading home after dinner.
The Question That Started the Fight
Then her sister called asking why she hadn’t been invited. The younger sister asked her why she would invite her, and her sister said it was because their mom was going.
She explained that it’s her daughter’s volleyball weekend and that, knowing how her sister feels about kids, it didn’t make sense to include her. Her sister argued that it was different because the daughter would be gone most of the day, but she held firm that the whole trip exists because of her daughter.
Her Only Aunt
Her sister said it wasn’t fair and pointed out that she’s her niece’s favorite aunt. The younger sister replied that she’s her only aunt.
Her sister called her a harsh name and then went to their mom. Their mom seems to agree with the younger sister, but she’s no longer as excited about the trip, and now a weekend that was supposed to be fun is starting under a cloud that may follow them all the way there and back.
