His Neighbor Keeps Blowing Leaves Into His Yard, So He Bagged Them and Left Eight Trash Bags at the Neighbor’s Curb and He’s Furious
A homeowner with no trees in his front yard keeps ending up with piles of leaves anyway. His neighbor, who has three huge maples, has been blowing them across the property line instead of toward the curb for pickup.
After asking nicely didn’t work, he raked everything up and set the bags in front of his neighbor’s house. Now his neighbor is threatening to call the police, and his wife thinks he should’ve just let it go.
Three Maple Trees Next Door
His neighbor’s yard is shaded by three large maple trees. Every fall, they drop a huge amount of leaves.
His own front yard doesn’t have a single tree. Without the neighbor’s leaves, there wouldn’t be much to clean up at all.
Saturday Mornings With a Leaf Blower
For the past couple of Saturdays, the neighbor has fired up his leaf blower around 8 a.m. Instead of blowing the leaves toward the curb, where the city collects them, he’s pushed them straight into the man’s yard.
It’s not a small amount either. With three mature maples, the leaves can cover an entire lawn in a single morning.
Raking Last Fall to Keep the Peace
The same thing happened last fall. Back then, he didn’t say anything and simply raked up the leaves himself.
He didn’t want to start a feud with someone living right next door. Keeping the peace felt more important than making a fuss over yard work.
Leaves Don’t Know Property Lines
This year, he decided to talk to his neighbor. He walked over and politely asked him to blow the leaves toward the curb instead.
His neighbor laughed and said leaves don’t know property lines. Then he went right back to blowing them onto the man’s lawn.
Eight Bags at the Curb
Last weekend, he raked up everything his neighbor had blown over. The leaves filled eight large paper yard bags.
He lined all of them up at the curb in front of his neighbor’s house. That was exactly where he’d asked his neighbor to put the leaves in the first place.
A Threat to Call the Police
That evening, his neighbor came over yelling. He accused the man of dumping trash in front of his house and threatened to call the police.
The man told him to go ahead. He has doorbell camera footage showing his neighbor blowing every one of those leaves into his yard.
City leaf pickup doesn’t begin until the 15th. Until then, the eight bags are still sitting at the neighbor’s curb.
The Cost of Someone Else’s Leaves
Cleaning up another person’s leaves isn’t free. Paper yard bags cost money, especially when it takes eight of them for a single weekend, and that expense will keep adding up if this happens every week.
There’s also the cost of his time. Raking a full lawn can take hours, and doing it every weekend through December means giving up a big chunk of his free time.
Leaving the leaves alone isn’t a great option either. A thick layer left sitting on grass can smother it, which could mean paying to repair or reseed the lawn in the spring.
Every Weekend Until December
His wife thinks he should have just raked them up like last year to avoid trouble. She’d rather keep things calm with the neighbors, even if it means more yard work.
But he knows this won’t be a one-time problem. With leaves falling every weekend until December, he’s stuck deciding whether to keep quietly cleaning up his neighbor’s mess or keep pushing back, knowing either choice could make the next few months a lot more tense.
